Six months later, I’m ready to put everything back together again. I consider this a new beginning for the the Encyclopedia of Me. More posts to come.

Drywall? What does drywall have to do with a craft blog? Good question. It turns out that a little dry wall work was the impetus for big changes in our lives. It all started out rather simply. Our condo had been on the market for all most 60 days. Tons of people looked at it, but nobody put in an offer. Discouragement set in. The bathroom is the most dated room in the house. We decided to spiff it up by removing an old medicine cabinet and patching the wall with wall board. A couple of days later when we were getting ready to start sanding, we received a real bona fide offer on our condo. Due to the negotiating process, all work came to a halt. Lucky for us, our prospective buyers want to finish the work themselves. Yea for us!

With the condo under contract, the real madness started. We needed to find a house. We’ve been looking, but not seriously. We couldn’t do much until we had a buyer for our place. We spent the next two weeks looking at houses every night after work. I’d like to say it was fun, but it wasn’t. We were too stressed. We have enough money to buy some of our wants, but not all of them. We needed to decide what to compromise. At last, we found a house that is perfect for us. We compromised a little on location, but that’s it.

So this is my good excuse for accomplishing so little. My August goals have been blown to pieces. The quilt top is finished. I wanted to have it done. Now it probably won’t happen until after the move. School is on hold until January at least. Simply put I don’t have the time. The bathroom, well this is one goal I don’t have to feel guilty about. It’s taking care of itself. I did make some potholder from Amy Butler’s In-stitches book. They’ll get posted tonight. I’m quite please with them.

Well thanks for listening.

Ross: Don’t you think that it’s odd that we don’t have a pet.

Me: No

Ross: Well I think we should get a cat.

Two week later we adopted Cedric and Penelope.

After living with us for 18 months, Penelope died of heart failure. That tramatic event lead to us adopting Calypso, a healthy engergic kitten, who is now 1 year old.

Our cats come into our life at just the right moment. Ross was in between jobs, working freelance stuff while looking for a job. Consequently he spent a lot of time alone at home. I think having the cats around kept him from going completly insane.

While I’ve always considered myself a cat person, I can’t believe how much I enjoy having Cedric and Calypso in my life. They make our house feel more like a home. There is nothing like being greet at the door by a furry creature. Mind you I do get a little frustrated when I come home from work and I find that they’ve destroyed a book marker just because it had a nice piece of string attached to it.

When we finally sell our condo and buy a house, I won’t be surprised when Ross wants to adopt another cat. He likes having them around

I love the color black. I like to wear it, use it my quilts, and decorate with it-in small dosages. The thing about black is a little goes a long way. I really discovered this in making quilts. A good quilt with have a wide variety of color value. Most quilts have a lot of light and medium valued fabric, but no dark valued fabric. By adding black, all values are present, and the eye can see the different patterns in quilts.

Today I was reminded of the power of black. I’ve been working on a scrap quilt. I completed the stripped pieces.

Then auditioned them with black, white, and dark blue background fabric.

Before I started the audition, I wanted white to win. I have the fabric on hand to finish the quilt top. After looking at all three pictures, I admitted defeat. Black won. Unfortanetly, I held my audition at 6:30. Thirty minutes after the closest quilt store closed. On Wednesday I’ll pick up some black fabric.

I should mention the con to using this much black in a quilt. It shows every piece of lint and cat hair that it comes in contact with. Actually it’s a lint magnet. This quilt will need to live in a pet free house.

I wasn’t going to participate in the Encyclopedia of Me meme until I read Megan’s post. She wrote about agony, a close cousin to anxiety; an emotion that controls me. A few years ago I realized that I hate feeling anxious. I can’t barely sit still to watch a suspenseful move even though I want to know how the story ends. Not only do I deal with anxiety for outside sources, I create my own. I torment myself with an emotion that I hate.

How do I create anxiety? Easy. When I need to make a decision about my life I lament over. Research the pros and cons until my sweet husband can barely stand to be around me. More often then not, I do nothing. I don’t want to deal with the consequences of a bad decision. Then I get upset because my life is going nowhere. Ok, I’m sure most people who are reading this are thinking what’s the big deal. Make a decision and see what happens. I agree with this thought.

My first decision is to bite the bullet and enroll in a continuing education class, Introduction to Design. I’ve want to do this for some time, but life always seems to prevent me. I’m going to acknowledge now that I’ll face obstacles like my job, church activites, traffic, and just basic time management. These obstacles don’t mean that I’ve made a bad decision. They are just apart of life.

It feels good to let go of a little anxiety.
