About Me
The Short Story:
- I like fabric.
- I like colors
- I like to sew.
- I love the feeling when I finish a project.
- Ross is proud of all my creations. Thus I’m encourage to make even more stuff.
The Long Story:
I started to sew around age eight. Clothes for my My Friend Mandy doll and my Barbies were my first projects. By the way, it is easier to sew for an 18″ doll verus a Barbie doll. At a very early age, I realized that sewing for Barbie was probably more work than it was worth. Of course if I ever have a daughter, I’ll buck up and create one-of-a-kind fashions for Barbie.
Moving on, in junior high and high school I started making my own clothes. I never took a sewing class at school. I followed directions from my mom, read instructions, and did what I felt like was the right way to do things. Of course, I made a few learning mistakes along the way. Just ask my sister who wore horitontal striped shorts one summer. Erica, I’m sorry. It took me years to realize that I made that mistake.
Despite my desire to create, I took a sewing hiatus during my college years. I was busy being “smart” and trying to prove (mostly to myself) that I’m intelligent. Consequently, I have a bachelors in Economics from Utah State University. Yeah, I know boring. Yet I did learn things that I still use today. Plus I made a lot of good friends.
Post-college brought on marriage and domestication.Within in six months of being married, I purchased a sewing machine. I made a few clothes. But I didn’t sewing with a vengence. Instead, I took a woods class at a local high school. In no time, we had furniture. I’m proud to say that I made a TV stand, bookcases, a kitchen cart, frames, and crown molding shelves. The woods class was one of the most empowering experiences I’ve ever had. I did something that I didn’t think I could do. I am women. Hear me roar.
After my furniture making spree, I returned to my first love fabric. I have nobody to blame but my mother. She kindly took me to quilt stores. It didn’t take me long to fall in love with fabric all over again.
While it has taken me a bit to discover my inner creative self, I love to make things. Creating with fabric brings me joy as I make gifts for others and objects for my home. I’m definetly a tactile person.
My future? Oh, I wish I knew. This much I know.
- Quilts are definitely apart of my future plans. Every Christmas one lucky receipent will receive a bed-sized quilt as gift. To my family, I apologize in advance if you wait several years for your turn.
- My blog will be around for a while. The act of posting makes me want to make more things. This is good most of the time.
- I think I’m going to try my hand at home decor. I want my home to be a reflection of Ross and I.
