A Day at Quilt Market

On Saturday, I had the opportunity to spend a day at Quilt Market as a perk from the business my mom is getting going, more on that later. Not only was the day spent with good quilting friends, we found a couple of sponsored challenges for the Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild, again details are still being flushed out. If you want more info, come to the guild meeting on Thursday.

The Kona booth was one of the first booths we stopped by. They were super nice. Several ladies got Kona color cards. I got a cool tote bag. When it comes to modern quilters, Kona gets it.

I spoke with several designers. Aneela Hoey has to be one of the nicest designers. Here she’s giving Brooke a fun tatoo.

I found several fabric line that I’m looking to hit the stores, including everything from Art Gallery, Joel Dewberry’s new line, Garden District by Heather Bailey, Lola’s Posies by Lila Tueller, Fiona’s Fancy by Lila Tueller, and Sandi Henderson’s Secret Garden. All of these line, scream sophisticated modern. I’m trying to think of a project for each line. It makes it so much easier to justify purchasing when I have a plan.

Even with all these wonderful new lines in the wings, I think the future of fabric lies in the organic cotton lines. Robert Kauffman is going gangbusters with organics. As soon as Avalon from Birch fabrics hits the stores, I’m buying me some bicycle wheels.

Only a couple pattern companies caught my eye. Don’t Look Know creates amazing applique quilts. I believe they can be done by machine or needle turn. Regardless of the method, I’m seriously think about buying a pattern. I just need to decide which one.

My next post, blogger meet up recap.
