Read Twice, Cut Once
An article by Rachel
Comments Off I think I should rename this blog Quilting True Confessions. I feel like I’m sharing more stumbling blocks than successful moments. Let me explain.
On Wednesday, I started making a Mod Mosaic pillow cover, following Oh, Fransen’s pattern. I cut up a bunch of squares and sashing strips, and set to work on the design. After completing the middle section, I had the feeling it didn’t look quite right. I decided to compare mine with the pattern. Yep, mine wasn’t quite right. I cut the sashing strips to be 1.5″ wide, while the pattern suggest cutting them 1″ wide. At this point, I could have thrown my work away or fix it. I decided to fix it. I’m on good terms with my seam ripper.
Through the week, I took a few moments here and there to get the pillow cover to this point:
Then I ran out of sashing fabric. Today I began my grand search for Kona Ash. I only had to visit three stores to find it. I decided to use a bit of logic in tracking down the fabric. I would start at the big JoAnn as it has the largest selection, then hit Handcock Fabric’s since it is between the big JoAnn’s and the little JoAnn’s, and move on to the little JoAnn’s. I should have started at the little JoAnn’s. While they have a rather limited selection of Kona cottens, they do have Ash.
Now my fabric is tumbling in the dryer. If the stars align, I just might get to finish the pillow top for one pillow. Yeah that’s right, I’m making two. Here’s to hoping that the second pillow is easier than the first.
