First Completed Quilt for 2011
Last week, I completed my first quilt for 2011.
I named it Hera. At the end of last year, I decided I needed a naming convention for my quilts. Since I use Greek mythological character names to name other things like my bike, my cats, and my computer, I thought I should continue the tradition and give my quilts Greek mythological character names. I get my names from this nice list on wikipedia.
Anyways, I named this quilt Hera because I like the name. Sometimes, I’ll be creative and use a name that shares a meaning with a quilt. Most of the time, I’ll just select names I like, even the evil character names. I also read Bulfinch’s Mythology on occassion to learn a bit more about stories. I think I’ll be reading this book for the rest of my life. It isn’t the type of book that you sit down with and read. The best way to approach it is in small bite-sized pieces like dark chocolate.
On the border, I used the pebble stitch for the first time.
The photo isn’t the best with the focus off the pebble stitching. This stitch will definitely make a reappearance in my quilts. It fills a border nicely.
The owner of this quilt is undecided. It measures 42″ square, perfect for a newborn baby. I just need to find the right baby.
