A Quick Recap
I really need to post more than once a week. Then I would know where to start. First, last week I got my labels from Label Crew Club. When these labels grow up, they’ll be cute birthday tags. I hope to get on this soon.
On Saturday, I hit Ikea. My mission was to return a few items and buy pillow inserts. I managed to return some items and buy pillow inserts.
Unfortunately, I didn’t stop with the pillow inserts. I got sucked into the vortex—the fabric vortex.
The bottom fabric will be used to recover a rocking chair that was bequeathed to us by my father-in-law. The top fabric’s purpose is yet to be determined. I’ve liked the fabric since it came out two years ago. It is going to be discontinued. So I bought two yards for my stash. I’m kind of thinking about a skirt. I’ll need to see how I feel once spring arrives.
My fun didn’t end with the fabric. I found some proper wooden boxes for my Expedit shelves. The cardboard magazine boxes aren’t strong enough for the size. I think the wood ones will be strong enough. Unfortunately, I must paint them before I put them together. If I’m counting correctly that’s three additional projects that landed on my to-do list just from one trip to Ikea. I’m can’t go back until these projects are finished.
And the status on a original project… my yo-yo pillow is coming along. Originally, I made 80 yo-yo’s. While I didn’t know how many I’d need, I really thought that 80 yo-yo’s would be plenty. Well I was wrong. Based on my measurements, I need 46 more yo-yo’s. I hope I have enough fabric leftover to make it happen.
I also should mention that my checkerboard quilt is quilted. The binding is attached on the front. I just need to hand sew the binding and add a label. I like the feeling of being close to done. However, I love being done even more.

I made a trip to the Ikea too. . . almost got fabric but didn’t – I’ll have to post what I did get then we can compare notes!
Whenever I go to Ikea or Costco I’m pretty much convinced that the country isn’t in a recession.
Yes! I exercised a lot of restraint by only buying 2 fabrics. I think I might try using some Ikea fabric for quilt backs. Then I’ll have a valid reason for buying fabric that is “cute” and wouldn’t really work as home decor.
don’t you love their fabric designs? i’ve bought a bunch that i haven’t used yet.
p.s. is it time for a meeting yet? it seems like it’s been forever!
I know I had to crawl out of the fabric votex there a couple of weeks ago. I will go back though it is still calling me.
They had a great selection of red and pink fabric. I need to find a use for it so I can buy it.
Instead of painting the wood boxes you could always mod podge some fabric on them. Or a combo of the two techniques.
I like all those yo-yos .. great colors!
I like your suggestion. I haven’t ever mod podged on to wood before. I’m going to experiment on scrap wood to see if I like the end result. I’ll post my results.
