Bewitched by Diamonds
An article by Rachel
Comments Off For Christmas, I got a NOOKColor, which I love, love, love. Now I can’t be a normal person and just buy a ready-made cover. I have to make my own. I further complicate the matter by imagining elaborate designs for my little nook cover. Lately, I’ve really been bewitched by a couple of quilts using diamonds. Now by no means is this a new design, but executed with just the right fabrics it looks rather contemporary.
This is what I came up with:

It looks all cute and innocent. Really it isn’t. I unpicked a couple diamonds more than once. My corners don’t match as perfectly as I’d like. I think they’re close enough. As it is I’ve all ready invested four hours just making this design. It’s time to say good enough and move on to the quilting.
To make part of the process a bit easier, I did sew two strips of fabric together before cutting. At least some of my diamonds gave me less headaches.

I followed the direction on the quilting.about.com website to get the angles correct. My diamonds are cut at 60 degrees. Even though the diamonds are a pain, I totally want to make a big quilt out of diamonds. Of course, I plan on using strips wider than 1.5″ or I’d lose my mind trying to finish the quilt.
I’m off to quilt this fabric and turn into a nook case/sleeve.
