Drafting Clothes Patterns
Nov 9, 2009 Sewing
In the past, I’ve taken a beginner’s time stab at pattern drafting with skirts. I enjoyed the process. When I saw the book Designer-It-Yourself Clothes: Patternmaking Simplified by Cal Patch, I knew I needed to take a look at it.

OK, first let me say I haven’t sewn one thing from this book. But I can say based on my experience and my understanding of what I’ve read so far, I like this book. The skirt instructions followed my previous experience and gave me ideas on improving the process. I really liked the variations on each basic pattern. I plan on making some new skirts. Perhaps some nice wool ones for the cold season. Also I’m going to take a stab at some pants. I’d love to make pants that fit just right.
My only complaint about the book is all the skinny models in the book. While the girls are cute, I think a book that encourages people to make clothes just to fit them should show a variety of people shapes. People need to see that now matter what their shape, they can find clothes that fit and flatter them.
Now I just need to add this book to my Christmas wish list.
