While Perusing the Web Today
Jan 28, 2009 Blogroll
I discovered an incredible Illustrator, Helen Dardik. Everything is bright and intriquing. I feel like I could look at her patterns for ever and still continue to see something new. Go check out her blog!
A Bit Stir Crazy
Jan 23, 2009 Life
OK, it’s January 23, and I’m officially stir crazy. I’m tired of being inside all the time. I want to be outside. Yet I can’t. It’s cold, wet, and the air quality sucks. When I’m not at work, it’s dark outside. I really miss the sun on my face. So what is a girl suppose to do? Really, I’m open to suggestions. Not even the thought of going shopping perks up my spirit, and I like to shop. (sigh)
From Paint Can to Pencil Cup
Jan 19, 2009 Paper Crafts
A couple of years ago, paint cups repurposed as pencil cups started to sprout up on the internet. I was intrigued. Yet I didn’t take on the project until last week when I needed a birthday gift.
While some crafters cover the can with fabric, I elected to use paper. It’s easier to wrap paper around the can than pulling fabric over the slightly larger rolled edge. The smooth sides of the paint can are a perfect surface for paper.

The hard part was selecting just the right embellishment. I didn’t have a plan beyond wrapping the ribbon around the can. Before I attached the ribbon flower, I thought I’d find some cool embellishment at the scrapbook store. No such luck, or I should say nothing said, “I’m perfect.” I came home empty handed. Then the miracle of the internet saved the day with the perfect flower embellishment. I was able to make it with stuff I already owned. Yet with that said, I definitely need to beef up my button supply.
With one pencil cup under my belt, I’m planning on make more. I need a couple of pencil cups for work.
Yes, I Made More Hexagons
Jan 15, 2009 Sewing

Apparently, I didn’t get enough when I made hexagons for my table runner. Earlier this week, I found myself with idle hands and the need to do something sort of mindless with said hands. Sewing up hexagons is a perfect solution.
The big question is finding a good use for them. They’re on the small side with each side measuring 3/4″ finished. A quick look through flickr made me think they might work as pillows. Does anybody else have a good idea? I promise myself the next time I sew up hexagons, I’m making them bigger.
The Kitten Has a Name
Jan 9, 2009 Life
Meet Echo, as in a nymph from Greek mythology.

Our name choosing process was very scientific. I made a list of acceptable names, and Ross chose the shortest one. Lucky for her the name seems to fit. I took the photo using Photo Booth on my iMac. She likes the flashing light.
Starting the Year Off with a Bang
Jan 6, 2009 Home Improvement
The last week or so has been non-stop project fun. I’m use the word fun to try and convince myself it was a really good use of my vacation time. Since my last post, I went from auditioning paint colors to a freshly painted bedroom, which sounds so simple. If only that was true. Here’s the two minute summary of the bedroom redo:
Wednesday, December 31, 2008

- Empty room
- Remove wall lights that were way too high
- Make junction box covers for electrical wires
- Plaster over the holes
Thursday, January 1, 2009

- Sand plaster
- Wait for plaster to dry
- Turn up the heat to help the plaster dry
- Put Christmas decorations away
- Sand more plaster
- Finally paint the ceiling with two coats of paint
- Crash sometime after 1 am
Friday, January 2, 2009

- Paint wall with two coats of paint
Saturday, January 3, 2009

- Clean up paint on the ceiling
- Paint trim on windows
- Put the bedroom back together
This list of my daily activities makes it sound so simple. Yet the experience exhausted me. I still need to paint the closets. Before this happens I need a plan for closet organizers. Any affordable ideas that don’t involved wire shelves?
Even with our old bedspread and mismatched furniture, the room feels better. I have my eye on a new bed and sidetables. I just need to save my pennies. For the timing being I’m just enjoying the fact that I started and finished a project.
As for the contest between my sister and I, she won. In fact, she wrapped up bedroom on January 1. By that point I think I managed to paint my ceilings.
