Lots to Write About
First, I’m done with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. At 12:06 am Saturday morning, I walked out the door of Smith’s with my copy, and by 10:00 pm Sunday night I was done. I didn’t think I’d finish in one weekend. I couldn’t help myself. Once I got started, I couldn’t stop. I’m OK with my Harry Potter nerd status. I’m glad at done. A couple of my co-workers also finished the book. I wouldn’t want them to spoil the end for me. Tonight I finally get to see the movie Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Then I’ll feel like my Harry Potter summer is complete. Actually, I might add a wand making party to my agenda in August. My SIL and I were sadly disappointed with the wands we made at the library. In fact, my cats successfully destroyed it already. I want something more durable than a straw.
Second, I can pick up my sewing machine tomorrow from the repair shop. Diagnoise: feed dogs needed an adjustment and tension was way off. I really want to know how the tension got off. Oh, well. It’s fixed and soon it will be home with me.
To get things started I’m going to make some hot pads that I desperately need. I like it when I can actually take care of need without going to store. Of course I’ve been to the store plenty of times to build up my stash of supplies.
Third, I finally found some fabric that I like to make a new quilt for our bed. I’ve been looking for about a year for the perfect fabric. My focus fabric comes from the Bleeker Street line by Michele D’Amore. I love it! I wanted a floral, but not a shabby chic, cottage floral. My husband is easy going. However, at the rate that I update our bedroom (once every 10 years) lots of flowers could push him over the edge. This floral has a nice Jacobean look. I think I’m going to learn more about the Jacobean era.

Last night I drafted the quilt. I need seven more coordinating fabrics similiar in value. My focus fabric will be apart of the mix. Since I purchased 3 yards, I’ll use the remaining fabric for throw pillows and some sort of curtain accessory.
One of Those Weeks
Jul 15, 2007 Life
This last week was one of those weeks that just wears we out. Last weekend, I went river running. Sunday I was wiped out. I thought after a good nights sleep I’d be ready for a new week, not so. It took we a week to recover. I can’t bounce back like I use to.
By the time, I started to feel recovered life started to happen. While on the river run, a 12-pack of coke exploded in my car. The details are too much for me to deal with. Let’s just say I spent a bit of cash to get the car detailed. The next night we ended up replacing the DVD player. Every DVD we put in skipped. On Friday, I realized that something was wrong with my sewing machine. The feed dogs aren’t working correctly. I tried to play with it. I accomplished nothing. On Tuesday, I’ll drop it off for help. If I’m lucky it will be repaired by Saturday.
I don’t mean to whine. I’m just worn out by the last week. This week needs to be better. I did manage to cut out some fabric for some hot pads from Amy Butler’s In-stitches book. When my machine returns, I’ll be ready to actually make something. Until then, I’ll satisfy myself with a little hand embroidery.
Pattern Review
Jul 9, 2007 Sewing
Today, my Stash & Dash bag pattern review was posted on the Sew, Mama, Sew! blog. I enjoyed the reviewing the pattern, and today, I actually used the little bag. When I went to yoga, I threw in a few essentials, and off I went. It was the perfect size.
In the review, I didn’t mention the little tag that I used. Remember last week I made little product tags? My little bag is the first item to have a tag. I’m so proud!

I think it adds a great finishing touch to my hand made items.
Busy Week
Jul 8, 2007 Life
Wow! It’s Sunday night. I’m exhausted. From Tuesday evening until last night, I’ve been running at full speed. None of my activities involved making anything crafty. Instead I’ve spent my time playing with family, watching fireworks, and running the Colorado River.
Now I need to decide what to make next. For the time being I need to stick to small projects. We are in the mist of selling our condo. I have to leave my house neat and tidy each day in the hopes that somebody will think our place is cute and buy our place. Back to my dilemma, my next project. I’m leaning towards a small tote or bag. It is Bag Month. I should add my project to the pool. I leave you with a picture of my brother and niece playing with sparklers.
