Birthday Joy
Last week I celebrated my birthday. Several people spoiled me. I walked away with a great birthday stash. My mom gave me a gift certificate to Ikea along with a catalog. Now I just need to wait for the Ikea Grand Opening on May 23. I’ve spent several hours paging through the catalog, trying to decide what I want. I still haven’t decided. I deciding how I can effectively store my fabric. I’m convinced that Ikea has the golden storage containers that I need. I have two months to think about this issue.
My brother, Moses, gave me an Album Quilt Note Cube Pad and the book, The Modern Quilt Workshop. I’m inspired by this book. I think Bill Kerr and Weeks Ringle are fine designers that truly understand color value and hue. I want to experience call like they do. Right now, I want to make the quilt XOXO for a friend that will be having a baby in a couple of months. Then on a small scale, I want to make Love Beads in a couple of different color ways as a study in color. I think I’d enjoy the process. Lots to look forward to.
Then there is the present from my dear sweet husband Ross. I’m always complaining about taking the lighting in my pictures. I work during the day. So Saturday and Sunday are the only days that I can take daylight pictures. During the winter, even those days are voided by cloudy days. Apparently, Ross got tired of my complaining. He bought we a small light kit. I don’t have all the particulars right now, since I’m still waiting for it to arrive. As soon as it does arrive, I’ll post plenty of pictures about my little light kit. It will be a fun play toy.
Last but certainly not least, a co-worker bought me a small bouquet of flowers. This gift was very unexpected. I love the red roses. I was sharply reminded of the power of being generous and thoughtful. So while I bask in my the goodness of all my new toys, I resolve that I will think less of myself and more of others. I too have the power to reach out to others.
A Spring Walk
Mar 15, 2007 Life
Ross and I live close to work. By close, I mean a little over a mile for me and probably about 3 miles for Ross. During the winter, I drove to work. Ross took TRAX, and I picked him up after work. Now that Spring has arrived, we are starting a new schedule. I’m going to walk to work at 2-3 days a week. Ross is going to take TRAX home at 2-3 days a week.
Today, I enjoyed my walk to and from work. On my way home, I snapped this picture.

I imagine in a couple of weeks this flower bed will be in full bloom with beautiful flowers. Now I have something to look forward to when I travel by foot.
A Little Progress
Mar 13, 2007 Home Improvement, Quilting
I’ve been busy over the last week. First, my Spring table runner.
It is progressing nicely. I’m actually ready to quilt it. However the quilting has been put on hold while I work another project. What another project? Yep. I finally got around to priming my chairs. See the beautiful before and after picture.
I’ve been working on these chairs for over eight years. My grandma gave them to my shortly after we got married. They were covered in multiple layers of paint. I stripped off the paint and sanded them. Then we just used them. I decided it was time to finally paint them. On Saturday, I applied the first coat of primer. I’ll sand again this week and apply an additional coat of prime. Then they should be ready to paint. I can’t believe I’m actually going to finish this project.
Don’t worry, I’ll get back to the table runner. I really don’t like painting that much.
