Quilting Saturday
Mar 19, 2006 Quilting
The third Saturday of every month is quilt group. The group consists of about 8-10 quilters. We get together and share tales of our quilting adventures. About six months ago, we decided to make blocks for one another. This month we made blocks for Marilyn. Marilyn choose the block and a color scheme. This is my block for her:

This block takes on a life of its own when placed when additional blocks.
After quilt group, my mom and I made a pit stop at a fabric store. I didn’t leave empty handed. I bought 5 fat quarters. I turned the first two into a little purse of sorts.

I saw one for sale at the quilt store. I decided that I could make my own.
- I cut two squares 18″ by 18″. Really they could be any size. I just used this size to make the most out of my fat quarter.
- I them the four side together, leaving a hole in one side to turn the square right-side out.
- After whip stitching the hole closed, I pressed it and top stitched around the edge.
- I made the casing by folding over each corner and sewing 1/2″ from the new edge. I folded the corner about 6″ from the edge.
- Then I threaded two strings through the casing. Next time I go to Joann’s I’ll buy some pink ribbon.

So what am I going to do with my little purse. I’m not sure. I think I will use it as a gift or wrapping paper for another gift. I’m sure it will find a good home.
What about the other fat quarters? I need one for a gift, no picture. The other two will become a new project. I’m going to applique a 18″ hawaiian block. I’m very excited about this project. I love applique. Yet I haven’t done any in a while. I think this fabric has lots of potential.
