Hexagon Magic
Feb 22, 2006 Quilting
As I mentioned in a previous entry, hexagons intrigue me. I believe 2006 will be the year of the hexagon, starting with hexagon stars. Originally, I planned on using fabric I already owned. This idea lasted until I visited the quilt store. Several new lines from Moda begged to be purchased. I couldn’t so no. Then I ran into a beautiful black & white print. I decided to buy redish fabrics for February decor and black & white fabrics for non seasonal moments.
I really like the center fabric. It would make a beautiful duvet.

A little bit of red to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

What’s next on the hexagon horizon? I could start off with something simple, like a table runner with three hexagons, or I could dive right in a large quilt. I’m leaning towards the large quilt. In my mind’s eye, I can see a hexagon quilt done in Asian themed fabrics. I think my brother-in-law would like it.
I’m think along these lines…

I prefer the square look to the rectangle look. I need to do the math to figure out a good size.
Oh clapotis!
Feb 21, 2006 Knitting
After spending the month of January knitting, I’m rewarded with a beautiful Clapotis. Here is is drying. Beautiful action shot.

Here my Clapotis waits to worn.

I can honestly say that I use this knitted item more than any other knitted item.
Can you find my blog?
Feb 9, 2006 Life
No! After reading craftblog advice, I know why. I’ve failed to advertise myself. Before I list all my marketing tasks, I want to explain why I blog.
Blogging combines several interests into one task. It requires technical know how, creativity, and content that inspires me. While I’ve included some knitting, quilting is my preferred craft. Read Why I quilt. While my blog has yet to reach my full vision, it serves the purpose of bringing my creativity activities together. Really, it is all about me.
If its all about me, why do I want others to read my thoughts? I believe in the power of groups to spawn creativity. Not long ago, I participated in a quilt class that last 6 months. In this class, I learn a lot from the instructor. However, I learned even more from my peers. Now the blogs that I read inspire me to create. I want to be apart of that creative energy.
What changes will I make? My ideas come from the Whip Up article and Google.
- Improve my pictures. I’m going to purchase daylight balance compact flourescent bulbs. At least one room in my house will be a good place to take pictures.
- Post at least twice a week.
- List my favorite blogs on my site, and then use them.
- Comment on other blogs without over killing it
- Participate in a meme. I’m leaning towards a Month of Softies. I like the theme for February.
- Add a header to my homepage. It will contain important words like: quilt, blog, and creative. I need a cool tag line.
- Verify the Title tag in my pages. It needs to contain the right keywords.
I’m off to improve my site.
