Project Update

So what projects have I been working on lately? This blog! For prosperity’s sake I include a screen shot of the current layout.

I’ve spent too much time playing with the layout and basic functionality. I can’t help myself. I love to figure out how things work. I have a small list of things that I still want to figure out, like:

  1. PHP includes
  2. Dynamic archives
  3. Dynamic Photo Gallery

This list along with my REAL projects will keep me out of trouble for a while. I haven’t totally disregarded my projects. I’ve been working on knitting a sock. It is my first sock. So I’m taking it slow. I’m sure I’ll end up knitting this sock 3 times. I have a small foot. The pattern is for medium sock. A picture will find its way on to the blog in time.

Road Trip

On Saturday, I hit the road with four quilting friends. Northern Utah was our destination.

Stop #1 – The Red Rooster in Providence, Utah. It took me about 5 minutes to break my first rule – No new projects. I immediately found a Moda line called Gatherings that I liked. Oh what to do? I didn’t have any plans for a new quilt. So I improvised. I bought 3 yards of a background fabric and various fat quarters that I liked. Ordinarily, I plan my quilts. Determine how much fabric I need. Then purchase what I need. So I’m our of my comfort zone. I came home with this:

Eventually, this fabric will be a Christmas present for somebody. I’m going to make an Irish Chain with a star in the middle blocks. I’m going to use an alternating background. I still need to buy 2.25 yards for the alternating fabric and 1.5 yards of the chain. I have eight months to complete it. I wonder if it will really happen.

Stop #2 – The Quilt House in Providence, Utah. Hands down the strangest quilt store I’ve ever visited. It is a converted house which isn’t unusall. Expect it still looks like a normal house. The lighting is horrible, and the store is full of dust. Everybody starts to sneeze when they walk into the store. So why did we even bother? I’ve been there before. I knew what I was getting into. A couple of my friends had never been there before. This was a new experience for them. Besides it is something you can’t believe until you see it for yourself.

Stop #3 – Stylish Fabrics in Logan, Utah. I had reasonable expectations before I actually entered the store. I new it wasn’t a store with a lot of character based on previous visits. The lack of character was ok, because their fabric was 20% off. So what did I buy? I actually purchased enough fabric for a back and binding. It is a little crazy put I think it will work. What do you think?

I’m going to add a white border with a scalloped edge. The striped border on the bias will give a nice finished look.

Stop #4 – Village Dry Goods in Brigham City, Utah. In the past, this story never impressed me. They don’t carry a lot of fabric. Nothing has changed. I didn’t buy anything, and I wasn’t even tempted. While a big selection of fabric isn’t essential, the fabric should at least be from new lines.
